Celebrating Valentine's Day in balloon flight is a good option to fall in love with your partner since this saint is the patron saint of lovers in many countries. But what is its origin? We explain it to you below. We will also give you a good recommendation of how you can surprise your love by giving you a balloon flight and how you can renew your love 1000 feet high. Who would not be surprised doing a balloon trip on Valentine's Day?

The Day of Valentine, Day of the lovers. How did this party come about?

The origin of this feast coincides with the Catholic Church's attempt to "Christianize" the pagan feast of fertility. For the ancient Romans February was the period of preparation for the rebirth of life. In the middle of this month, from century IV aC, the celebration of the Lupercalias began, in order to keep the wolves away from the cultivated fields. The priests of this order entered the cave, at the foot of the Palatine where, according to legend, the wolf had nursed Romulus and Remus, made various sacrificial sacrifices. Likewise, along the streets of Rome blood of animals was scattered. The names of the men and women who participated in these festivities were deposited in an urn and mixed. Later on, a boy would take the names of some couples who, for a whole year, had to live together and maintain intimate relationships for the fertility rite to take effect.

How do you get, from the Lupercalias, to Valentine?

The forerunners of the fathers of the Church, decided to put an end to this practice which they considered licentious, wanted to find a saint of lovers to replace the immoral Luperco. In 496 AD, Pope Gelasius liquidated the pagan feast decreeing that the cult of St. Valentine be celebrated instead.

But who was that man?

The tradition tells that the martyr Valentin, was born in Interamna Nahars, the current Terni, in AD 176 and died martyred in Rome on February 14, 273, being the bishop of Terni. Valentin dedicated his life to the Christian communities of the city of Terni, where there was a persecution against the Christians. He was consecrated bishop of the city in 197 by Pope St. Feliciano and then became the protector of love around the world.

Why was he chosen as the patron saint of lovers?

It is considered the pattern of lovers since the legend says that he was the first religious to celebrate the union between a pagan legionary and a young Christian, something totally forbidden at that time.

Is there a particular story about him?

It is said that one day Valentine listened, near his garden, two young lovers who were discussing. Concerned, they went to meet him, carrying a rose in the hand he offered them, begging them to reconcile together and squeeze the stem of it, taking care not to prick and pray the Lord to keep his love alive forever. Some time later, the couple asked her to bless her marriage. When the story spread, many decided to go on pilgrimage to the seat of the bishop of Terni on the 14th of each month, which was the day dedicated to blessings. Later the date was reduced to the month of February since the 14th of that month of the year 273 Saint Valentine was martyred.

What about the most recent story?

The association with romantic love is later, although the question of its origin is controversial. According to one of the most credible arguments, St. Valentine was introduced as the Feast of Lovers, thanks to the work of Geoffrey Chaucer (1343-1400), author of the Canterbury Tales, who in his poem "The Parliament of the Birds and other visions of the dream ", on the occasion of the commitment of Richard II of England and Ana de Bohemia, speaks of that day. In any case, in France and England in the Middle Ages, it was believed that in mid-February the mating of birds begins, which lent itself to be consecrated, on February 14, as the day of lovers.

Its most commercial connotation, when does it originate?

In Anglo-Saxon countries, the most characteristic feature is the exchange (at the beginning of the 19th century), for "Valentine", of love notes with the silhouettes of the romantic symbols of love (hearts, doves, Cupids). The earliest "Valentine" of which we know dates back to the fifteenth century, and was written by Charles of Orleans, who was imprisoned in the Tower of London after the defeat at the Battle of Agincourt (1415). Charles addresses his wife, Bonne d'Armagnac, with the following words: "Je suis déjà d'amour tanné, ma très douce Valentinée" (I am seared with love, my very sweet Valentinée). The United States, Esther Howland began making Valentine's cards on an industrial scale. Over time the tradition of postcards and love notes became secondary to exchanging boxes of chocolates, bouquets, or jewelry.
